Great Meeting For August!

posted Sep 17, 2014, 9:53 AM by Martha Rasmussen

Get ready for a great DABA meeting tonight, 7 pm at the Cascade Senior Center!
Tonight's speakers are:
Oak Rankin speaking about the S.T.E.M., Science - Technology - Engineering - Mathematics, project and bring us up to speed on how this is being used locally. This is a very exciting project making learning more challenging and fun.

Will Honea is the co-owner of the new Woolley Market which just opened last July. Their store features locally produced grocery items. Some of us have talked about having a store that sold local products kind of like a "local" department store which would carry an inventory of locally crafted products. I believe we can learn a lot from Will tonight. We may even want to schedule a field trip to his new store.

There is a LOT going on with DABA this year!  Work continues with FNM to save North Mountain Fire Lookout and restore it to a vacation rental.  We are looking forward to our expanded outdoor recreation opportunities with the Suiattle River Road reopening in the fall and FFPU continues to keep our forest roads healthy and clean.  Our Tourism Liaison, Marla is working hard to get press releases out for all the great things we can say about Darrington and the special events.  For the year 2014 we are adding two new committees to DABA!   Our new Real Estate Liaison will working on getting the word out about all the commercial and industrial real estate available and the great economic opportunities Darrington has to offer!  DARA is a new committee hard at work focusing on recreation and natural resource management.  KUDOS to DABA!  We are bringing positive change to our Darrington area!

Upcoming DABA Meeting For April

posted Apr 3, 2013, 4:55 PM by Martha Rasmussen   [ updated Apr 3, 2013, 4:57 PM ]

Our speaker for April will be Scott Morris with the Darrington Historical Society talking about the Green Mountain Lookout.  We will be looking at some history of the lookout, why it's a popular tourist destination and important part of our history and heritage.   The lookout now faces an uncertain future.  As many of us know, when the lookout was restored and replaced on it's mountain a lawsuit occurred for it's removal.

Come to the meeting on April 17, 2013, at the Cascade Senior Center, 7pm  and learn about the Green Mountain Lookout and how community can play an important role in its future.

We will be forming a steering committee

Last month's meeting showed overwhelming support to restore North Mountain Fire Lookout and turn it into a vacation rental.  Projects in other areas similar to this one have been very successful and booked a year in advance!  Having the lookout as a rental will increase visitors and revenues to the area.

A steering committee is being formed to create a business plan.
